What will you be doing at DeepL?

You will be part of the highly motivated team that runs DeepL's analytics platform. Our growing team is a cross-functional mix of Engineers, Data Analysts, Data Scientists and Product Owners working towards our common goal of leveraging our user data. In this role you will be focusing on experimentation and metrics. At DeepL we use experimentation to measure the impact of new product features and the impact of our marketing campaigns. You are responsible for developing statistical and machine learning models as well as data pipelines for AB testing, customer churn analysis, retention metrics and marketing performance. Based on the vast amount of data that we gather from our more than 100 million users you will make a significant impact on our company goal of building the best possible translation experience and overcome language barriers.

Your responsibilities

  • Implementing and maintaining code and statistical modelling for AB testing in python
  • Implementing robust data workflows as well as maintaining and improving our analytics codebase based on Python and Clickhouse SQL
  • Designing user metrics for monitoring and decision making like retention, customer value or expected revenue
  • Predicting user behaviour based on statistical and machine learning models, e.g. customer churn prediction
  • Carry out deep-dive business analysis to support decision-making and strategy
  • Make data and metrics accessible via Charts and Dashboards in Metabase 
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers and product managers
  • Consult with teams from Product and Marketing to understand their mission, requirements and translate this into actionable insights
  • Proactively dig through our data and make meaningful suggestions
  • Help identify, define and specify future insight and data needs to support the different business units

About you

  • You have 2+ years professional experience working as a Data Analyst or Data Scientist
  • Expertise in statistics, in particular methods in hypothesis testing
  • Solid knowledge of programming in Python which is our Data Science tool of choice
  • Mastery of SQL
  • Experience with popular Python frameworks for machine learning, e.g. scikit-learn
  • You have a Master's degree or PHD in a quantitative subject like physics, mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science or another field with a strong emphasis on quantitative analysis
  • Highly passionate about data, with creative problem-solving abilities and an eye for detail
  • The ability to transmit information concisely and clearly - whether written, spoken or visually
  • You have been working in a data oriented position in an internet company is a plus
  • Practical experience with big data tools like Clickhouse, Spark or Hadoop is a plus
  • Fluent in English, which is our company language
